The first thing you should have done is divide all of the rationed foods by 7 so you'd have some idea of how much you could eat every day.

World War II rationing was the first time in British history in which every single individual man, woman and child in the country was guaranteed a supply of dairy foods. That alone made a huge difference in nutritional intake. British children actually gained height on average compared to their pre-war counterparts, and British women on average increased their dress size.

The non-rationed foods were not very abundant due to transportation issues. Coffee might not have been rationed, but it wasn't abundant either.

The powdered egg amounted to only 1 dozen fresh eggs.

Breaks my heart as a Canadian when someone orders Cheese Sticks and gets some small mozza sticks instead of an 8" garlic fingers (think a cheese pizza with garlic butter instead of tomato base)

In my experience same recipe, times temps everything, the times i used the liners, food was underdone

I also think using a microwave doing WWII rations is cheating. They didnt have them at that time. And it would have been better if you 1)planned meals for the week and 2) had real meals and used more bread as it was unlimited. 3) the reason you were hungry was you didnt eat vegetables and fruit nor did you eat unlimited bread( a loaf a day was not unheard of simply because it was unlimited) 4)potatoes were strongly encouraged to be eaten at a minimum of a pound a day per person per day. Not 2 for the week. You lack of what was really used as a whole made your challenge worthless. You acted like the rations were the whole meal it wasnt. Very unrealistic.

I shop at Morrisons or waitrose alternately for my main shops and I do buy different products from each but my spend is about the same. I buy the offers and essential ranges and the quality rarely disappoints. The overall shopping experience is very good too plus if you have their loyalty card you get a couple of coupons and a neros coffee if you take your own cup. They do some unusual products as well. I also visit farmfoods too.

It says right in step 7 of the pasta dish that if it seemed a bit dry to add splashes of the pasta cooking water. Instead of doing that, they both complain at the end that the pasta is a bit dry lol I can see where the British get their reputation for having bad food because that was a very easy fix, they ignored it, then complained about it lol just made me laugh honestly

Suggestion for future mealbox weeks like this since they're quite different from the diet challenges. If these boxes are supposed to be cheap alternatives to cooking for yourself - I'd like to see what the cost would have been if you had to get the groceries and make everything from scratch compared to what the costs are purchasing the boxes. Some of these (the gnocchi, the taco, the alfredo) feel like you got hustled cost-wise. I would think "well you got recipe cards so you can make them on your own later on" but the fact they even packaged vinegar and garlic instead of giving you measurements sorta messes that idea up

The military diet was intended for men doing lots of vigorous exercises for 8 to 10 hours a day and manual labor. Like a professional athletic.

Just stating the obvious but you need to eat way, way more to get the same amount of calories that you're used to. That is partly why you feel so shit. Whole foods will be cheaper online in bulk and you really need oats or similar grains to make it cheaper and to bulk out those breakfasts

Mr. Dimwit Brit: First of all that burning smell you smell is the motor running for too long - you're supposed to pulse these machines. That's true for most food processors. Second, some recipes take more than just one ingredient like the peanut butter. Read the ingredients on your peanut butter jar and you'll see. Third, some people like me, live in an apartment or have small kitchens and don't have room for large appliances. This one's perfect and works great for me. I've had mine for about 6 months and use it all the time. Lastly , I guess by British standards you are funny. I find you sophomoric and you're not a movie star. I just tuned in to see my food processor any helpful hints I could get for it. Good luck with all that.
